upcoming event …Lost but Found Safe and Sound

At 10:00 a.m, on Saturday, May 7, 2016 the DR&GC is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring a free training event geared towards 3rd to 6th graders.  The training, “Lost but Found Safe and Sound” is a national program developed by the National Park Ranger Association to teach children how not to get lost, and if they do, how to make it easier for searchers to find them.  The one and one-half hour training will be presented by club member Jim Bridge of the Maine Search and Rescue Dogs (MESARD), an all volunteer 501.c.1 organization that deploys in support of the Maine Warden Service and various other law enforcement organizations around the state.

Jim, an eight-year member of the DR&GC, is a certified Wilderness Ground Searcher and certified Search Team Leader with previous experience in both air and ground search and rescue in Alaska, and he maintains certification as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR). Jim joined MESARD in 2007 as a Flanker, providing navigation, communication and first aid support.  Attendance to this training is limited to a total of 40 children who will be split into two groups for two, 45 minute sessions.  One group will be in the club house for a class room session and video and the other group will be outdoors with a SAR dog demonstration, and then switch.   Children should dress for the typically unpredictable weather of May in Maine, including solid footwear as this training will be held, either rain or shine.
